Transom.org is a “An experiment in channeling new work and voices to public radio through the internet, for discussing that work, and encouraging more.” Transom features audio documentaries by independent producers, resources and links for people interested in audio production including, a bulletin board for connecting with other producers and professionals.
I just listened to the newest story available on Transom and it was wonderful. “Finding Miles”, produced by Sarah Reynolds, was recorded over the period of a year and documents Miles’ transition from female to male. I am looking forward to listening to more stories.
Do you have an audio documentary you would like to share? Check out Transom’s submission page for all of the rules and how tos.
Wait there is more! Check out the Transom Radio Hour, a series of hour-long programs on the art of making radio hosted by Jay Allison. These programs, which include interviews with folks at Radio Diaries, StoryCorps, WNYC, and more, are gold nuggets for anyone interested in audio documentary or storytelling in general.

Radio Diaries is a non-profit organization that works with people to record their personal stories. I first heard a Radio Diaries segment on NPR’s This American Life and was instantly hungry for more. Lucky for me, Radio Diaries has a website full of MP3s as well as other great oral history resources like their Teen Reporter Handbook, a guide for anyone (not just teens) interested in learning how to conduct interviews and document their lives.

New York Works is a series of audio portraits of people living in New York City and working in professions that are slowly fading into the past. Walter Backerman, Seltzer Man is one of my favorites.
